Boys Basketball: Dexter celebrates seniors with double overtime win over Saline

On Tuesday night, the Dexter boys’ basketball team celebrated and thanked a special group of seniors. And then those seniors, along with some help from the underclassmen, went out and helped win an important basketball game against a very strong Saline team in yet another exciting SEC Red showdown.

“It was our Senior Night – and what a game,” said Dexter coach Jason Rushton. “I’m proud of what we’ve been able to overcome throughout this season and (Tuesday) was no different. We were cold in the first half and it continued a bit in the third.”

Dexter fell behind 10-6 after the first quarter and trailed 26-17 at halftime. Each team scored nine in the third quarter as the Dreadnaughts trailed 35-26 heading into the final quarter, well, fourth quarter – since it wasn’t the final quarter.

“I think we were down 13 at one point, but we continued to battle,” Rushton said.

Dexter outscored Saline 19-10 in the fourth quarter to push the game into overtime. The Dreadnaughts finally won the game – after two overtimes – 59-54 to improve to 7-6 in the SEC Red and win their third straight impressive league game.

Evan Haroldson led the way with 20 points and had three blocks. The junior hit a triple and scored six points in the overtimes. Senior Cal Bavineau had 13 points, 7 assists and 7 rebounds and also knocked down a triple in overtime.

Junior Brennan Parachek had 11 points, 10 rebounds and 2 blocks. Senior Ty Rychener added 7 points, 4 assists and 6 rebounds.
