Girls Basketball: Dexter cruises past Huron in SEC Red matchup

The Dexter girls’ basketball team ended 2021 by knocking down 13 three-pointers in a win over Woodhaven in a non-league game. The Dreadnaughts opened 2022 by knocking down 16 two-pointers in a 56-14 win over visiting Huron in an SEC Red Division contest.

The point? That Dexter can score points from all over the floor and they can beat you in more ways than one – which should serve them well in the tough SEC.

Dexter took a 16-4 lead in the first quarter and extended it to 27-8 by halftime. The host outscored the young River Rats 12-4 in the third quarter and 16-2 in the final quarter. Seven players scored for Dexter including three in double figures.

Maddi Valentine scored 11 of her game-high 14 points in the opening quarter. Sydney Pnacek had 11 points and Chloe Perry scored 10. Alena Blumberg had seven points, Brianna Rodriguez scored six and Maggie Lewis had four in the win.

Saige Edmondson led Huron with six points. Four other players each scored two for the River Rats.

Dexter improved to 7-1 on the year and have won seven straight since opening with a loss to Salem. They return to action Thursday, Jan. 20 against Westfield Prep before playing Friday, Jan. 21 at Lincoln in a league game.
