Softball: Niswonger, Sutton send Dreadnaughts to sweep of Pinckney

With Districts waiting around the corner, the Dexter softball team appears to be switching gears as they swept Pinckney on Monday to extend their winning streak to five games and improve to an impressive 24-7 on the season.

The Dreadnaughts won the first game with the Pirates 5-4 and then hit double digits in runs with a 10-4 victory in the second game.

In the opener, Dexter scored a run in the first and Pinckney answered with a run in the fifth. The pitcher’s duel ended in extra innings when the Pirates scored three in the top of the eighth and the Dreadnaughts put up four in the bottom of the inning to win it.

Down 4-2 in the eighth, Dexter’s Kylee NisWONger WON the game with a three-run triple.

Brenna Cassidy was 3-for-3 with a walk and a run scored. Niswonger, Lillie Robeson and Sam Sutton all had two hits for Dexter.

Sutton tossed 117 pitches in eight innings to get the win. She recorded 13 strikeouts and just one walk. None of the runs were earned – the Dreads committed five errors.

The Dreadnaughts cleaned up the defense (no errors), had TWO home runs from Sutton and piled up 11 hits for a 10-4 win the nightcap. The Dreads set the tone with a six-run first inning. They added a run in the fourth and three more in the sixth.

Pinckney had a run in the fourth, two in the fifth and one in the sixth.

Sutton’s huge game included two homers with five RBI and two runs scored. Paige Sayler had two doubles and two runs scored. Niswonger had two hits, a walk and two runs scored and Jenna Wagenschutz had two hits and two RBI.

Sayler had 12 strikeouts and allowed just two earned runs and one walk over seven innings to earn the win.
