Softball: Dreadnaughts extend winning streak to seven with sweep of Parma Western

The Dexter softball team extended its winning streak to seven games with a double-header sweep of Parma Western on Monday. The Dreadnaughts took the opener 8-2 and completed the sweep with an 11-0 thrashing in the nightcap.

In the first game, Dexter fell behind 1-0 after two innings but took the lead to stay with a three-run third inning. The Dreadnaughts added five in the fifth to lock up the victory.

Dexter had 12 hits while holding Parma Western to five.

Paige Sayler was solid in the circle for the Dreads. She allowed just five hits and two walks over seven innings with 12 strikeouts and just one earned run allowed.

Dexter spread around the hits on the offensive end. Sam Sutton was 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBI and Lillie Robeson was 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles, a run scored and an RBI. Brenna Cassidy and Hannah Marsik each had two hits. Jenna Wagenschutz had two walks and scored twice.

It was all Dexter in the second game as the Dreadnaughts scored runs in each of the first four innings, including five in the second, and used eight hits to score an 11-0 win in five innings.

Sutton allowed just one hit with four Ks in two innings and Cassidy didn’t allow a hit or walk in her three innings of work from the circle.

Sutton had another big game at the plate. She hit another home run and had three RBI and scored twice. Maddy Thompson was 2-for-3 with runs scored and an RBI. Sayler had a hit, walk with two runs and two RBI. Ella Mitchell and Emma Sortor each had a hit and two RBI.

The Dreadnaughts play at Ann Arbor Huron on Wednesday.
