Track & Field: Dreadnaughts, Bulldogs race to the finish line in dual meets

The Dexter track and field teams hosted rival Chelsea on Tuesday and the race to the finish line was as close as close can get. In fact, the boys’ meet ended in a deadlock as both the Dreadnaughts and Bulldogs finished with 68.5 points.

The Chelsea girls’ team edged the Dreadnaughts 76-61 in a close race that featured outstanding performances on and off the track.

The teams will meet again this weekend at the Chelsea Field Invitational on Saturday.

Top individual performers for the Dexter boys were Cole Cabana winning the 1oom, and 200m along with teammate Cole Sheldon taking 2nd in the 100m, 3rd in the 200, first in the Pole Vault, and a 2nd place in the Long Jump.

Dexter took more points in the Vault with Noah Schultz taking 2nd. Senior Conor Kolka was a dual winner in both the 1600m, and the 3200m runs. Wilson Kasischke won the 300m Hurdles, and took 2nd in the 100m Hurdles.

Thrower James Livingston took 2nd in the Shot Put, and 3rd in the Discus. Freshman Keaton Murphy-Walsted won the High Jump, and Senior Nathan Gariepy won the 800m run.

On the girls’ side, Maggie Jordan took 2nd in the 100m Dash. Teammates Gracie Burns and Gwen Tatara were a dual threat in the 200m and 400m, with Burns winning both, and Tatara taking a 2nd and a 3rd.

Amanda McGill won the 3200m run, and Junior Katie Krueger took the top spot in the Discus, along with teammate Abby Marek taking 2nd, and a 3rd place finish in the High Jump. The High Jump was swept by the Dreadnaughts, with Abby Van Noord taking 1st, Haley Craig 2nd and Marek 3rd.

In the pole vault, Josianne Mettes was first and teammate Makenzie Stock took second.
