Softball: Sutton helps lead dominant sweep of Tecumseh

The Dexter softball team busted out the bats on Friday and drove home two wins over Tecumseh in a double-header sweep. The Dreadnaughts won the opener 16-0 and took the nightcap 14-1.

In the opener, the Dreadnaughts ripped 18 hits and scored in every inning. Dexter plated a run in the first inning, two in the second, five in the third and four each in the fourth and fifth innings to put the game away.

Sam Sutton was impressive in the circle for Dexter. She had six strikeouts, no walks and allowed only four hits in the shutout win.

Sutton also had a big day at the plate. She was 4-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI.

Lillie Robeson was 3-for-4 with three RBI and Maddy Thompson was 2-for-4 with five RBI and two runs scored. Kylee Niswonger, Paige Sayler (two RBI, two runs), Jenna Wagenschutz (three runs) and Emma Sortor (two RBI, two runs) each had two hits.

Dexter didn’t waste anytime putting up runs in the second game as the Dreadnaughts scored six in the first inning. They added a run in the third and seven in the fifth to end the game after five innings.

Dexter had 11 hits and didn’t commit an error.

Sutton drove in four runs with two hits and two runs scored while Niswonger was 3-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored from the top of the order. Brenna Cassidy had two hits and Lillie Robeson had three walks and scored three times. Livvy Melifont had two RBI, two runs scored, two walks and and one hit.
