Softball: Dreadnaughts drop a pair to Jackson Northwest

Jackson Northwest combined strong pitching with potent offense in a softball sweep of Dexter on Tuesday at Dexter.

Northwest scored five runs in the first inning and two more in the second to take a 7-0 lead and cruised to an 11-4 win in the first game. Dexter finally got the offense going with three runs in the seventh but it was too late to get back into the game.

Dexter racked up six hits in the game. Kylee Niswonger, Livvy Mellifont (two doubles and three RBI) and Sam Sutton all had two hits to lead the Dreadnaughts. Dexter was sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Maddy Thompson had the most chances in the field with eight.

Brenna Cassidy and Paige Sayler were in the circle for Dexter. Sayler threw six innings in relief.

Dexter lost the second game 7-0. Sutton managed the only hit for the Dreadnaughts. She also went all seven innings in the circle.

The Dreadnaughts play at Monroe on Wednesday.
