Hockey: Chelsea’s “stingy defense” blanks Dexter 4-0

The Chelsea Bulldogs used lockdown defense and scored in every period to knock off rival Dexter 4-0 on Wednesday at the Ice Cube in Ann Arbor. The Bulldogs led 1-0 after the first period and 3-0 after two periods.

“Chelsea is a good team with a stingy defense,” said Dexter Coach Matt Bollinger. “We had no answers for their D-zone. We played better hockey than what we’ve seen in the last week, but just didn’t have an extra spark today.”

Chelsea’s Keegan Montgomery scored at 3:56 of the first period to make it 1-0.

In the second period, Devin McIntyre scored twice to give the Bulldogs a 3-0 lead. Brendan Westcott finished the scoring in the third period. Tyler Valik had two assists for Chelsea.

The two teams meet again at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday at the Arctic Coliseum in Chelsea.
