Swimming: Dexter opens season with convincing win over Jackson

The Dexter boys’ swimming and diving team got its feet wet last Thursday with an easy 109-71 win over host Jackson in an SEC White Division season-opener dual meet for both schools.

The Dexter foursome of Stuart Bovich, Clayton Kinnard, Matthew Resende and Adam Hauser opened the meet with a first-place finish in the medley relay. The group went 1 minute, 44.72 seconds to take first. Jackson touched second in 1:47.59. The Dexter team of Adam Bergen, Jack Potsos, Otto Krueger and Grady Wheeler was third in 2:01.11.

Senior Leo Varitek took first in the 200 free with a time of 1:50.66. Teammate Dylan O’Connor, only a freshman, was third in 2:03.30.

The Dreadnaughts went one-two in the 200 IM with Kinnard first in 1:59.13 and Hauser second in 2:12.77.

Resende, only a freshman, took first place in the 50 free with a time of 24.48 seconds. Tristan Lorincz was third in 25.60 and Lucas Greatorex was fourth in 26.47.

Junior Cole Warren scored 292.50 points to easily take first place in diving.

Dexter went one-two in the 100 fly with Stuart Bovich first (1:00.19) and Resende second (1:05.81).

Varitek won his second individual race of the meet when he touched first in 50.68 in the 100 free. Wheeler was third (58.22) and Lorincz was fourth (58.52) for the Dreadnaughts.

Hauser, a junior, went the distance to win the 500 free with a time of 5:18.15. O’Connor was fourth in 5:51.44.

Dexter’s 200 free relay team of Varitek, Resende, Greatorex and Hauser touched first in 1:39.42. The team of Lorincz, Bergen, Travis Fitch and O’Connor was third in 1:51.41.

In the backstroke, Bovich was second (1:00.43) and Otto Krueger was fourth (1:09.96).

Kinnard, a senior, won his second individual race when he took first in the breaststroke in 1:01.10.

Dexter’s 400 free relay team of Varitek, O’Connor, Greatorex and Kinnard took first in 3:42.32. The team of Lorincz, Fitch, Wheeler and Bovich was third in 4:06.95.

The Dreadnaughts swim on Thursday against visiting Adrian in Dexter’s first home meet of the season. The meet begins at 6 p.m. at Wylie Pool.
