Swimming: Dreadnaughts finish 10th in the state at Division 2 State Finals

The Dexter swimming and diving team racked up 98 points to finish 10th on Saturday at the MHSAA Division 2 State Finals at the Northview Aquatic Center. Fellow SEC team Ann Arbor Skyline was 12th with 86 points.

Birmingham Seaholm took first place overall with a dominating 309 points. Rochester Adams was second (263) and Northview third (174).

Dexter’s Lily Witte won diving for the second consecutive year and she did it in record fashion. Only a sophomore, Witte repeated as the diving champion with 486.95 points – an LPD2 Finals record. Okemos sophomore Caroline Li was a distant second with 447.50 points.

Dexter junior Elysa Grossman was fifth in diving with 367.55 points and Dexter sophomore Vivian Kinnard was seventh with 358.45 points as the Dreadnaughts landed three divers in the top seven.

The Skyline team of Shannen Lee, Sophia Nielsen, Addison Kim and Lily Cleason took eighth in the opening medley relay with a time of 1 minute, 51.52 seconds. Dexter’s team of Lauren Witte, Delaney Parker, Emma Sortor and Lily Witte took 11th in 1:52.71.

Cleason, only a sophomore, was seventh in the 200 free for the Eagles with a time of 1:55.37. Dexter senior Hailee Waters was 11th in 1:57.51 and Skyline’s Gina Sadler was 23rd in 2:03.50.

Sortor, a senior, was 18th in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:01.82.

In the 500 free, Waters was 11th in 5:19.78 for the Dreadnaughts. Sadler was 24th for the Eagles in 5:28.30.

In the 200 free relay, the Skyline team of Lee, Allie Deininger, Erika Sauld and Cleason was seventh in 1:40.45. Dexter’s team of Marea Balcom, Lily Witte, Sortor and Waters touched 12th in 1:41.80.

Cleason had Skyline’s best individual performance of the day. The sophomore was a very close second in the backstroke with a time of 56.84, just missing first (56.15 was the winning time). Skyline’s Lee, only a freshman, was eighth in 59.55. Dexter’s Lauren Witte was 13th in 1:00.41 and teammate Madison Matos was 24th in 1:02.04. Skyline senior Aly Guevara was 29th in 1:03.98.

In the breaststroke, Nielsen was 19th in 1:10.31 for the Eagles. Dexter freshman Delaney Parker was 23rd in 1:12.00.

Dexter’s foursome of Balcom, Lauren Witte, Matos and Waters touched 10th in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:40.61. Skyline’s team of Lee, Guevara, Deininger and Sauld took 17th in 3:45.70.
