Volleyball: Dreadnaughts appear ready for tonight’s (Nov. 2) District opener

The Dexter volleyball team opens District play tonight (Nov. 2) at home against Saline. And the Dreadnaughts, winners of the SEC White Division, got a spike in confidence over the weekend by winning three matches including one over Ann Arbor Skyline.

The Dreadnaughts will host Saline at 6 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 2 in a District opening-round match. The winner advances to the semifinals against Skyline on Wednesday. The other side of the bracket has Huron playing Pioneer in the semifinals. The finals are at 6 p.m. on Friday.

Skyline is clearly one of the teams to beat and Dexter proved they can do just that on Saturday with an impressive win over the Eagles.

The Dreadnaughts won the first game 25-21 but Skyline evened things up with a dominating 25-11 win the second game. The Dreadnaughts came right back and took game three 25-18. The Eagles answered with a 25-17 win to push the match to a fifth and deciding game.

Dexter won the fifth game and the match with a resounding 15-5 win – and statement.

Livvy Melliftont led the team with 25 digs and also had 11 serves. Delaney Arnedt had 23 assists and six aces among her 19 serve attempts. She also had seven digs. Jordan Kless had nine digs and 10 kills. Eleanor King had 19 digs, two aces in 10 serves and seven kills. Avery Goodrich had six kills, eight digs and two aces in 18 serves. Mikah Salemi and Jamie Giese each had four kills.

Dexter had no problems with Dearborn, a team rich in volleyball history. The Dreads won 25-14 in the first game and 25-22 in game two.

The Dreadnaughts also defeated Pinckney (25-13, 25-12) and Belleville (25-22, 25-21).
