Volleyball: Dreadnaughts’ perfect week includes win over rival Chelsea

Three matches last week for the Dexter volleyball team. And three more wins for the Dexter volleyball team. This is starting to become a habit for the Dreadnaughts, who knocked off Chelsea, Hudson and Monroe to improve to an impressive 9-1 on the season.

“We played really strong this week,” said Dexter Coach Elizabeth Kaylor-Palmer. “We’ve really been focusing on our serve and pass game, our ability to be strong on a free ball play, and our energy. Our girls brought all of that and so much more this week to come out 3-0.”

The cherry on the top was beating rival Chelsea. These games are always emotional and intense and last Tuesday’s match was no exception. The Dreads opened with a dominating 25-18 win in the first game and never looked back. Dexter won the second game 25-11 and the third game 25-17.

“We played really strong against Chelsea,” Kaylor-Palmer said.

Avery Goodrich and Eleanor King each had 11 kills for the Dreads. Jordan Kless had seven kills. Delaney Arnedt had 20 assists and King recorded 15. Livvy Mellifont led the team with 28 digs while Avery Goodrich had 12 and King had eight.

On Thursday, Dexter spiked host Monroe in a close SEC crossover contest during a quad-match in Monroe. Dexter won the opening game 25-22 but the Trojans bounced back to take game two 25-19. The Dreads won the decisive third game 15-12.

Kless recorded 11 kills while King had seven and Mikah Salemi had six. Arnedt had 17 assists and King added 14. Mellifont had 27 digs to lead the Dreads. Kless had 12 and King recorded seven.

In Dexter’s other game on Thursday, the Dreads spiked Hudson 25-18, 25-11.

Kless had eight kills while King and Allie Kangas each had four. Arnedt had 12 assists and King 11 for Dexter. Mellifont had 12 digs while King and Goodrich each had six and Jamie Giese had five.
Dexter hosts a quad on Thursday with Huron, Pinckney and Parma Western.
