City of Dexter now limiting park permits following “mistaken” grant

Park Use Permits press release from the city

At this time, the City of Dexter will not be issuing park use permits for events that have the possibility of drawing uncontrolled crowds.

Last week a permit was mistakenly issued for an event that included craft tables and music, which led to the misunderstanding that we are open to approving these types of events. That event will not be occurring. We apologize to the involved applicants for this confusion.

As is stated in the Governor’s Executive Orders, the City can’t take actions that abridge anyone’s Constitutional rights (e.g. to hold a peaceful demonstration), however we will not be approving the use of the park for public events that include the selling of goods and services and/or the performance of music for an uncontrolled number of attendees until further notice.
