Huron Waterloo Pathways Initiative: B2B Trail Construction Updates, Trail Stewardship

Work continues at the B2B Trailhead near the intersection of North Territorial Road and M-52. Retaining walls for the trail segment adjacent to the trail-head are under construction.

Construction also continues on the tunnel under M52 that will connect the Pinckney and Waterloo Recreational areas. This construction will require the full closure of M-52 between Waterloo Road and N. Territorial Road for up to three weeks.

A detour will be posted during tunnel construction, however, residents and property owners who live within the work zone will be provided access to their homes and/or businesses. The Washtenaw County Parks & Recreation Commission will issue an advisory once the exact closure date has been determined. Thank you in advance for your patience during the road closure. It will all pay off when we can use the tunnel to safely cross M52 while on the B2B!

From HWPI: Trail Stewardship

In partnership with Hudson Mills Metropark, HWPI volunteers enjoyed a gorgeous morning in early March, clearing buckthorn and multiflora rose from along the boardwalk of the B2B Trail in Dexter. Clippers, pruners and handsaws were employed to create a ten foot buffer between the boardwalk and overgrowth.

Invasive vines and branches that grow past handrails and up through the planks are dangerous to trail users and damaging to the structure. Stewardship is important to keeping the community safe, our trails well-cared for and the environment maintained. We look forward to scheduling more trail stewardship weekends in the future!

We would like to extend a big THANK YOU to the Washtenaw County Road Commission volunteers who cleared brush, limbs, and vegetation to provide a clear path to two universal access hunting blinds near the B2B Trailhead at Lyndon Township Hall. The efforts of volunteers like this amazing crew help to keep the great progress moving forward on the B2B!
