Boys Basketball: Dreadnaughts knock off Monroe in SEC crossover game

Sophomore point guard Cal Bavineau had 13 points, six assists and four rebounds and senior Marco Lucchesi added 10 points and four rebounds to help lead Dexter to a 60-47 win over Monroe in an SEC crossover game on Tuesday night.

Junior Colin Parachek had eight points and eight rebounds in the win. Brennan Parachek, Ryan Trinkle and Aidan Dexter all scored six points for the Dreadnaughts.

Dexter will host Parma Western on Thursday in the Dreadnaughts’ final game before the start of the postseason.

Dexter is playing in the Brighton District and will open up in the semifinals against the winner of the Pinckney-Skyline game at 5 p.m. on Wednesday. Skyline went 14-6 on the season and defeated a couple of strong teams down the stretch, including No. 1 ranked Huron and Detroit Country Day on Friday.

Dexter opened Tuesday’s game with a 15-13 lead after the first quarter. The Dreads went on a 18-8 run in the second quarter to push the lead to 33-21 at halftime. Dexter led 42-27 heading into the final quarter.

The Dreads made 9 of 12 free throws in the fourth quarter.

Xander Middleton had a big first quarter for Monroe and led the Trojans with 21 points.
