Girls Basketball: Dreadnaughts keep on rolling with easy win at Pinckney

Sometimes after a big game, a basketball team can come out a little flat, a little out of synch, even perhaps a little disinterested. But the Dexter girls’ basketball team, fresh off a huge overtime win on Friday at Chelsea to gain a share of the league lead, came out quite in synch and very much interested in knocking off host Pinckney on Tuesday night.

The Dreadnaughts jumped out early, leaving nothing to chance. Dexter led 17-10 after the first quarter and then scored 21 points to just eight for the Pirates in the second quarter for a commanding 38-18 halftime lead.

They outscored Pinckney 13-9 in the third and 14-9 in the fourth for good measure and cruised to a 65-36 win in an SEC White Division game.

Meanwhile, Chelsea defeated Tecumseh 64-48 on Tuesday night. Both Dexter and Chelsea are 13-1 in the SEC White.

Dexter’s defense was solid all night. Only five Pinckney players scored and only one reached double figures.

Every player on the roster scored for Dexter and five players scored eight or more points in the win.

Shannon Schoch scored eight of her 10 points in the first half and Brianna Rodriguez also scored 10 for Dexter. Kylie Cabana scored six of her eight points in the first quarter, Kyleigh Valentine knocked down a pair of three-pointers and finished with eight points and Olivia Mellifont also scored eight.

Sydney Pnacek and Alayna Babut each scored six in the win.
