U-M participating in blood donation challenge (see list of dates/locations)

The University of Michigan is once again competing with other universities in a blood donation contest that runs through Feb. 26.

Faculty, staff and students from U-M are encouraged to take part in the Winter University Challenge, which also includes Michigan State and Penn State universities and the University of Notre Dame.

To make an appointment, participants can visit bloodbattle.org and click “Donate” or visit the American Red Cross’ website, redcrossblood.org, and insert “goblue” as the sponsor code.

Presenting donors will receive a Winter University Challenge T-shirt and coupons for Bruegger’s Bagels and Washtenaw Dairy, while supplies last. Donors will also be entered into a drawing for gift cards to local businesses and other prizes.

The American Red Cross asks donors to use Rapid Pass before arriving at the blood drive. Visit redcrossblood.org/RapidPass for more information.

Due to blood donation eligibility requirements set by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the American Red Cross, not everyone will be able to donate. However, all of the drives aim to provide an inclusive atmosphere. Learn more about blood donation requirements.

Donors are asked to eat iron-rich foods and drink plenty of water before donating.
