Golf: Local teams compete at Division 1 State Finals   

On the tee – Skyline, Pioneer and Dexter!

Skyline and Pioneer teed up an impressive showing this weekend at the MHSAA Division 1 Golf State Finals at The Fortress in Frankenmuth. Both teams landed among the top 15 in the state out of 18 teams.

Dexter, with its strong showing two weeks ago at Regionals to qualify for the state finals, finished 18th in the competitive field.

Lake Orion shot a team score of 606 to finish first. Grosse Pointe South was second (617) followed by Rockford (621), Catholic Central (623), Hartland (624) and Clarkston (626).

Skyline was 11th with a team score of 653. The Eagles shot a 324 on the first day and 329 on the second day. Pioneer finished just one stroke behind its crosstown rival with a 654. The Pioneers fired a 329 on the opening day and 325 on the second day.

Dexter fired a first-day score of 355 followed by a 360 on day two for a 715.

Justin Sui of Lake Orion was the top individual with a 141 (71-70). He won in a playoff over Grosse Pointe South’s Coalter Smith.
