Regional Track: Dexter sending 10 athletes to D-1 MHSAA State Finals

Dexter competed in the State Regional championship on Friday at Lincoln High School. The meet was to be originally held at Saline, but due to damage to their track that was unable to be repaired the meet was moved at the last minute to Lincoln.

The Lady Dreadnaughts as a team finished in 4th place scoring 70 points, while the boys finished in 5th with 50.

Dexter Boys qualified seven individual athletes for the State Championships. Leading the way was Junior Owen Huard taking 3rd in the 1600 with a time of 4:18.83, and 5th in the 3200 clocking 9:33.54. He qualified for both races at the upcoming state meet.

Other state qualifiers were Seth Read, taking 4th in the 1600 (4:21.99), Nathan Larson taking 3rd in the 3200 (9:23.66), and pole vaulter winner Henry Sheldon (15’6”) 2nd place Oliver Bishop (15’0”), 5th place Cole Sheldon (13’6”), and Noah Schultz (13’6”).

Other Dexter placers at Regionals were Liam Buller who finished 6th in the 800 with a time of 1:59.55. The boys 4x8oo relay placed 8th with a time of 8:45.47 (Nick McKenzie, Josh Lamb, Ransom Duncan, Lucas Betzold).

Dexter girls had three individuals qualify for the State Championships.

Senior Nicole Bow will be representing Dexter in both the Long Jump and Pole Vault. Bow won the Long Jump with a distance of 17’1 ½”, and took 2nd in the Pole Vault with 11’3”. Pole Vault teammates and Regional champion Josie Mettes (12’1”), and 4th place finisher Sophie Mettes (10’3”) also will be competing in the state finals.

Other Dexter Regional placers for the girls were Emma Hall and Emma Young tying for 3rd in the High Jump (4’10”), 400m runners Lauren Bazick taking 6th (1:01.98) and Gwen Tatara taking 8th (1:02.47). Senior Anna Varitek placed 7th in the 3200m (11:36.64), and sophomore 100 Hurdler Brooke Steere took 4th with a time of 16.18. Pole Vaulters Teaghan Holman (9’9”), and Mackenzie Stock (9’9”) were 5th and 7th respectively.

Three Dexter relay teams also scored points; the 4×200 (Erin Baldwin, Maggie Jordan Gwen Tatara, Faith Jones) placed 7th (1:51.34); the 4×400 (Emma Chevillet, Gwen Tatara, Faith Jones, Megyn Scafasci) were 5th (4:17.54); and the 4×800 (Gracie Salisbury, Ashley Mitchell, Hannah McComas, Megyn Scafasci) finished 5th with a time of 10:18.12.
