Softball: Dreadnaughts rack up 33 runs – including grand slam – in sweep of Ypsilanti 

The Dexter softball team brought out the lumber on Monday in two easy wins over host Ypsilanti in an SEC White Division double header. The Dreads won the opener 17-0 and then the second game 16-1.

In the opener, Dexter pounded out 15 hits and scored 11 runs in the third inning.

Lillie Robeson went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBI. Five Dreadnaughts collected a pair of hits: Livvy Mellifont (three RBI and three runs scored), Emma Sortor (two runs scored, two RBI), Alexis Haley (FIVE RBI), Kristy Maitland and Stephanie McClendon.

Paige Sayler worked three innings and recorded eight strikeouts with one hit and one walk. Brenna Cassidy struck out the side in her inning of “work.”

Ypsilanti led 1-0 after the first inning of the nightcap but it didn’t last long. Dexter answered with seven runs in the top of the second. They added two in the fourth and seven more in the fifth. The Dreads had 12 hits and no errors.

Sam Sutton was the Dreadnaught to knock in five runs in this game, doing it mostly with one swing of the bat – a grand slam in the second inning. Maebel Robeson was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI.

Kylee Niswonger led off the Dexter lineup with two hits, three runs scored and a walk. Emily Lance also had a big game with two hits, two runs scored and two RBI. Mack Gordon had two walks and two runs scored and McClendon had a hit, three RBI, two walks and two runs scored.

Cassidy (three strikeouts, one hit) and McClendon (four strikeouts, one hit) handled the pitching duties.

Dexter hosts Huron for a DH on Wednesday.
