Softball: Dreadnaughts break out the bats in nightcap against Skyline

After a scoreless first inning, everything went a little crazy on the softball diamond in the second inning between Dexter and host Skyline on Wednesday afternoon. The Dreadnaughts scored three times in the top of the second but Skyline answered with a seven spot in the bottom of the inning.

Then things returned to normal as the scoreline featured all zeros until the Eagles added a run in the sixth for an 8-3 win in an SEC crossover game.

Both teams had six hits and an error.

Mayah Alam was credited with the victory for Skyline. She surrendered three runs on six hits over seven innings, striking out 12. It was Alam’s second strong start after she threw a no-hitter on Monday against Huron.

Skyline’s Carson Fox was 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBI and a run scored. Gabby Toth (double), Madie Czjaka, Neva Siers and Madison Westhoven each had a hit in the win. Nyeli Kratz had a run scored and walked twice.

Kylee Niswonger led off for Dexter and had one hit and two RBI, Mack Gordon had a hit, run scored, two walks and an RBI.

Sam Sutton allowed six earned runs on just one hit but had six walks. Taylor Wilson worked 4 innings and allowed six hits, just one run and struck out three.

The Dreadnaughts brought out the heavy lumber in the second game, racking up 16 hits in a 12-1 win over the Eagles in a game that was called after just 2.5 innings. Dexter scored six runs in the opening inning and added two more in the second and four more in the third.

Alexis Haley was 3-for-3 with two runs and an RBI and Livvy Mellifont was 3-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. Emily Lance, Paige Sayler (three RBI) and Stephanie McClendon all had two hits for the Dreads.
