A Look Inside This Weekend’s 2019 Spring Remodelers Home Tour

The 2019 Spring Remodelers Home Tour, April 13-14, offers a look at everything from whole-hose remodels to additions, kitchens, and bathrooms and everything in between. Discuss with experts how you may be able to improve your own current space to better suit your needs and lifestyle.

A few of the special offerings during this year’s tour includes:

Home #3 (911 Robin Road, Whole House Remodel)

This home has an interesting story. It is in the Water Hill neighborhood near downtown, and is the first entry by a new BRAG member, husband and wife team Craig and Sarah Lorenz known as Better Shelter.

The home was designed by well-known architect Charles W. Lane who also designed Huron High School and contributed to hundreds of schools in Michigan.

The couple bought the home and renovated the entire house, keeping the mid-century modern style, and updating the finishes and amenities including a built-in hot tub on the deck and a spacious seamless tile shower. The home has been sold, and they are on to their next project, but first wanted to share the results with anyone interested in this weekend’s Tour.

Home #7 (414 Felch Street, Meadowlark Design+Build)

Meadowlark Design Build took a new spec home and added custom touches and a new master suite. Several spaces were unfinished, and the homeowner’s were able to make it fit their lifestyle with an art and crafting room, a relaxed, well-lit basement, and impeccable interior design done by Ethan Allen. It is also within walking distance of downtown Ann Arbor.

Homes #1 & 2 (11053 Sandalwood Court, Plymouth / 1419 Carol Avenue, Plymouth)

The two Plymouth homes are very sleek and feature high-end finishes, and with only eight homes on the Tour, are certainly worth going a few extra miles to see. Plymouth has some similar qualities in comparison to Ann Arbor, with many older homes that are being updated and expanded.

Overall

Many of the homes are interesting because they have been transformed in drastic ways, unable to be done by the typical “do-it-yourselfer.” Home #8 at 2634 Devonshire is presented by Rochman Design Build, who literally raised the roof – and the floor – to create the cohesive result.

This is not your typical trendy design, but rather a Japanese inspired, warm style with ergonomic features.

Another home located at 1309 Lutz Avenue, by Forward Design Build Remodel (Tour home #5) began with a failing foundation. The foundation was actually deepened, creating a more functional basement. They also built a two-story addition, and remodeled the entire home, with a sharp kitchen with bold tilework and built-in features.

The times for this weekend’s tour are Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Times for Sunday are noon to 5 p.m. For more information, call 734-996-0100 or log onto BRAGAnnArbor.com|
