Warriors Rugby Football Club features high school players from Dexter

Rugby has been one of those sports that Dexter just grabbed ahold of and ran with. The team was not only successful but very popular with students and parents.

“Rugby was a complete game changer for our son,” said a parent on the team’s web site. “Playing rugby in conjunction with playing football improved his conditioning, speed, tackling and decision making, which was apparent on the football field as well as the rugby pitch. Our son’s confidence grew and his performance improved over the three years he played at the high school level, which led him to play for a season in college.”

The name may have changed but the commitment and popularity is still the same.

The Dexter Devils Rugby Club is now the Warriors Rugby Football Club.

The Warriors now consists of high school boys from Dexter, Chelsea and the surrounding area. The team’s season opener is today (Thursday, April 4 at 6 p.m.) at Manley Bennet Park in Hamburg (east side behind baseball fields).

The game will last just over an hour and will be followed, in rugby tradition, by a meal shared between both teams.

Here is the Warriors schedule

4/4 home vs. Washtenaw

4/18 away at Howell

4/24 Home vs. Troy B

5/2 Home vs. Brighton A

5/9 Away at Detroit CC
