Dexter Softball Gears Up for Districts

Dreadnaught softball varsity coach, Tim Kimball, says his “scrappy” team is gearing up for a competitive district tournament. With the brackets redrawn they’ll be facing tough competition, starting with Brighton on Tuesday, May 29. Howell, Pinckney and Skyline are in the group as well.

“We’ve got a young team, but smart and experienced,” Kimball says. “You would never know they’re freshmen.”

With contributions from every girl off the bench, Dexter softball possesses great depth.

The Dreadnaughts are led by senior Maddie Stroia (RHP) on the field and in the batter’s box. Offensively, they depend on Olivia Mellifont, Kristy Maitland and Alexis Haley. Brenna Cassidy, Emily Lance, Kylee Niswonger and Jenna Wagenschutz are also key contributors in the lineup.

Kimball says his diverse, talented team is coming together, and to continue to be successful, they need to play unselfishly and as a team.

Hard work both on and off the field is the name of the game for the Dreadnaughts. In addition to regular practices, they complete weight training sessions twice a week.

“The girls are putting in the extra work and it’s contributing to our success,” Kimball says.

Catch Dexter in Howell, on Tuesday, May 29, at 4:30 p.m., for the first game of the MHSAA District Tournament.
