Softball: Dreadnaughts Sweep A Pair From Skyline Eagles

The big-hitting Dexter Dreadnaughts won twice in a doubleheader against the Ann Arbor Skyline Eagles.

The first game was close through four innings, but a massive nine-run rally in the bottom of the fifth led to a Dreadnaught mercy, 11-1. Big contributors for Dexter were Emily Lance and Olivia Mellifont with two hits and three RBI each, and Alexis Haley and Kristy Maitland with two hits and one RBI a piece.

Other key players in the victory were Jenna Wagenschutz with a hit and two runs scored and Brenna Cassidy with one of each. Kylee Niswonger crossed the plate twice.

Lance racked up all her RBI in the Dreadnaught’s monster fifth inning with a two-run double and a RBI single. Mellifont’s two-RBI double added to the excitement. Haley and Maitland’s RBI hits, a hit and run scored by Brenna Cassidy, a walk and a run scored each by Jenna Wagenschutz, Emma Sortor and Maddy Stroia, furthered the fun the Dreads were having.

Stroia took charge in the circle, keeping the Eagles to just one hit and striking out five.

Nyeli Kratz put up Skyline’s only hit, a triple, and then Amelia Greco brought her in with a ground ball to the right side.

Mayah Alam and Sarah Larson split time pitching for the Eagles. Alam struck out six, but gave up eight earned runs. Larson, who came on in the middle of the fifth, was responsible for two of the Dreadnaught’s runs scored.

Dexter copped the win in the second game as well, but with a much closer score of 4-1.

They jumped on top early with a RBI single from Mellifont that scored Lillie Robeson, who reached on a fielder’s choice. Dexter scored one run in each of the next two innings – Cassidy brought in Maitland who got on with a bunt single in the second and then Mellifont earned another RBI with a single that scored Maebel Robeson in the third.

The score remained 3-0 until the top of the sixth when Skyline landed three walks in a row and Madie Czjaka scored on an basehit by Megan Rood, making it 3-1. But, the Dreadnaughts answered back with another run in the bottom of the inning, after M. Robeson walked and then scored on a passed ball.

Skyline went down one, two, three in the seventh and the final score ended up 4-1 with Dexter on top.

Taylor Wilson threw five solid innings for the Dreadnaughts, striking out three and giving up just two hits and one run. Cassidy closed the game for Dexter, striking out four in the process.

Sarah Larson pitched the first five innings for Skyline. She allowed nine hits, four earned runs and struck out one. Jayden Lightfoot finished the game for the Eagles, throwing just six pitches to snag the final few outs.
