Softball: Dexter wins pair of lopsided games over Pinckney, Ypsilanti

A 13-run first inning led the Dexter softball team to an 18-1 victory on Monday over Ypsilanti. The game was called after three innings because of the mercy rule.

Sam Sutton, Lillie Robeson, Taylor Wilson, Kristy Maitland, Mack Gordon, and Kylee Niswonger each had RBIs in the big inning. In the first, Dexter got their offense started when Sutton drove in one when she singled.

Maddy Stroia led things off on the hill for Dexter and allowed no hits over three innings, striking out five and walking zero.

Dexter racked up 17 hits on the day. Livvy Mellifont, Niswonger, Sutton, Jenna Wagenschutz, and Wilson each had multiple hits for the Dreads. Wilson, Wagenschutz, Sutton, Niswonger, and Mellifont all had two hits to lead Dexter.

The Dreads didn’t commit any errors. Gordon had the most chances in the field with five.

Last Friday, Sam Shuts pitched a shutout in Dexter’s 19-0 win over Pinckney.

Sutton led the offense by driving in four runs. She went 3-for-3 at the plate and drove in runs on a home run in the first, a single in the second, and a walk in the third.

Sutton allowed just four hits over three innings, striking out three and walking zero.

The Dreads launched two home runs on the day. Maddy Stroia also homered in the opening inning.

Dexter racked up 17 hits in the game. Sutton, Lillie Robeson, Emily Lance, Emma Sortor, and Livvy Mellifont each collected multiple hits for the winners. Lance, Robeson and Sutton each collected three hits.

Jenna Wagenschutz made the most plays in the field with three as Dexter didn’t commit an error in the game.
