Girls lacrosse: Dreadnaughts off to strong start, knock off Salem, Huron

The Dexter girls’ lacrosse team continues to roll through the season racking up wins against some pretty good competition. The Dreadnaughts defeated Salem 10-4 on Tuesday as junior Sierra Holmes scored three goals.

Sophomore Claire Vaughn (1 assist), senior Marin Waddington (4 draw controls which helped the Dreads keep possession) and senior Gabi Waddington (1 assist) each scored two goals.

Seniors Skylar Waddington (2 assists, 2 draw controls) and Alisha Birchmeier (1 goal) also played well for Dexter.

Junior Bruna Meister had 10 saves and was a “difference maker” for Dexter.

On April 13, Dexter defeated Ann Arbor Huron 11-9 in overtime.

Marin Waddington had 5 goals and Skylar Waddington had 3 goals and 2 assists for the Dreads. Sierra Holmes, Jillian Chesney and Gabi Waddington each scored a goal. Janie Harshe had 2 assists and Alisha Birchmeier had an assist for Dexter.

On April 11, Dexter defeated Tecumseh 15-4.

Gabi Waddington, 4 goals (3 draw controls), Skylar Waddington, 4 goals, 1 assist (2 draw controls, 1 interception) and Marin Waddington, 3 assists (6 ground ball recoveries, 5 draw controls, 2 forced turnovers) helped lead the offense.
Janie Harshe (2 draw controls) and Claire Vaughn (1 assist, 1 forced turnover) each scored twice in the win. Alisha Birchmeier, Sierra Holmes and Maggie Jones (1 draw control) each scored a goal.

Bruna Meister made 4 saves in the win.
