$150,000 In Grants Announced By The Kiwanis Club Of Ann Arbor

The Kiwanis club of Ann Arbor (KCAA) Foundation is awarding $150,000 in grants to children and family service agencies in the greater Ann Arbor area which includes Dexter. The grants will be awarded this spring (2018).

The substantial gifting to the community is partly the result of the KCAA selling their Downtown Ann Arbor building, the club site for 50 years, and the payment of the mortgage of their new location at 100 N. Staebler Road just off Jackson Road.

“This is a return to the KCAA tradition of annual granting of major dollars to nonprofit organizations and service providers,” announced Michael F. Dabbs, a past club president and assistant chairman of the Grant Coordination Committee. The club, chartered in 1921, has a 97-year history of diverse philanthropy.

The Kiwanis grant application is available on-line at www.a2kiwanis.org or by calling Cabbs at 734 668 4884. The deadline for submission is March 16, 2019.

The Kiwanis Thrift Sale of reusable household goods includes furniture, ment’s and women’s clothing for all ages, hardware, electronic equipment and books and recorded music, and is the club’s community fund-raiser. The Thrift Sale is located at the club’s new location on N. Staebler Road. Store hours are Fridays and Saturdays, 9 am to 1 pm.

Thrift Sale profits and the financial support by club members and friends also allow the KCAA to award middle school stipends, high school college scholarships and summer camperships. The club donates household items and merchandize to families in need that is valued at approximately $115,000 annually.

Since its 1921 charter, the chapter has provided over $6.3 million to address diverse community needs. A large number of volunteers donate their time weekly to the preparation and the staffing of the Thrift Sale.

Kiwanis is an international organization of service blubs providing work hours and financial support to diverse hands-on projects. The KCAA meets Monday, noon, at the club and welcomes guests to their one-hour meeting. For more information, you can visit their website or call 734 665 0450.
