County Crime Blotter: String of Burglaries and Multiple Assaults Across Dexter/Scio

Scio township faced a criminal, or criminals, last week who left their mark by breaking out rear patio doors on their victims’ homes.

The first of these incidents occurred at some point during the day on Thursday, Jan. 11, at the 5900 block of Redstone Ct. After forcing entry through the back-sliding glass door, the crook(s) stole a checkbook and a cell phone.

Two similar break-ins occurred the following day, Friday, Jan. 12, in the afternoon. Cash and a wallet were taken from a home at the 1500 block of Chapleau Dr. but nothing was taken from the third victim’s residence at the 5000 block of Birdie Ln. Again, the rear doors were damaged.

These cases are still under investigation and the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s department is looking into whether or not they might be related as the M.O. in each was the same.

At some point between Saturday, Jan. 13, and Monday, Jan. 15, a Honda vehicle was stolen from a non-residence at the 3500 block of Jackson Rd. Deputies reported the unknown suspect broke into the building first and found the keys to the vehicle.

Over in Dexter, a woman took a hammer to a garage door window at the 14300 block of Edgewater Dr. after an argument with her boyfriend on Wednesday, Jan. 10, just after midnight. She fled before police arrived on the scene. The report is currently with the prosecutor for further examination.

Additionally, four domestic assaults occurred last week between both Dexter and Scio Township.

The first took place in Scio, at the 100 block of Peach Ln. E., on Wednesday, Jan. 10, at 12:31 a.m. The attacker, a 31-year-old male from Ann Arbor, caused no injuries to his victim, but was arrested for his crime.

Scio’s second assault incident occurred on Sunday, Jan. 14, at the 4200 block of Jackson Rd. at 6 a.m. A 29-year-old male from Grand Rapids was the aggressor. He left no injuries and was not arrested.

Two domestic assaults also took place in Dexter.

On Saturday, Jan. 13, at 12:12 p.m., a 59-year-old female assaulted her victim at the 5100 block of Green Knolls Ln. There were no injuries reported and no arrest made.

A 47-year-old female from Gregory is the suspect in an assault that took place on Monday, Jan. 15, at 10:38 p.m. at the 6800 block of Reilly Dr. No arrest was made after her attack which inflicted no injuries.
