Continuing The Much Loved Luminaria Tradition

Among the many things I love about the Christmas season, the Christmas Eve Luminaria is close to the top. Slowly cruising the city streets lined with the familiar decorations stirs the soul and evokes the very meaning of “silent night, holy night.” It moves me somehow even though I don’t understand why.

Maybe you feel the same way.

There will be a workshop to assemble the Luminaria kits for this year on Saturday, December 9 at the City of Dexter’s Department of Public Works located at 3600 Central St. If you would like to help put the kits together, be there by 9 AM. If you are interested in delivering the kits, be there at 10 AM.

In the past it took a Village, but now it takes a City to distribute the kits to neighborhoods. It requires a significant volunteer effort.

The Luminaria is made possible through the generous donations of time and money from the Dexter community. To help keep the lights shining Christmas Even, you can make a donation by mailing or dropping off your gift to the Cith of Dexter at 8123 Main St. (please indicate “Luminaria” on the check. Donations can also be made at
