Ground Has Been Broken For New Elementary

The Groundbreaking Ceremony for Dexter’s new elementary school took place today, Nov. 13, at 4:30 pm. In attendance were Board of Education members, students, teachers, construction management, and parents.

Construction fences and barriers will be erected this week with construction officially beginning next Monday. The new school is expected to be ready for students by December 2018.

The groundbreaking was a full circle of sorts for one person in the small crowd. The Senior Project Manager for Granger Construction, Greg Brand, is a 2000 graduate of Dexter High School. He was present at the groundbreaking of the high school and is now not only present with his two elementary aged sons at the first turns of the earth this afternoon, but is overseeing the project.

He says, “As a student I was excited to be at the groundbreaking of Dexter High School. Now as a parent with two sons of my own in Dexter schools, it feels really good to be able to be a part of a project like this.”

Below are a few photos from the ceremony this afternoon.
