The Dexter football team fell to 0-3 on the season despite an offense that continues to put points on the board. The Dreadnaughts fell 42-13 Friday night to South Lyon East, a team that lost its first two games while allowing a combined 84 points.
Dexter, which has allowed an SEC-high 85 points, faces Lincoln on Friday night. The Railsplitters are 1-2 and coming off an impressive 26-14 win over Chelsea.
Dexter has allowed 41, 44 and 42 points in their first three games.
The first half on Friday was a defensive struggle as both teams got to know each other in this non-league game.
The Dreadnaughts jumped ahead with a four-yard TD run by Joe Luallen. The extra point failed but Dexter had a 6-0 lead.
Dexter took a 13-0 lead early in the second quarter on a one-yard run by Luallen.
South Lyon East finally got on the board on a 25-yard pass play to cut the deficit to 13-7.
Dexter took a lead into the locker room at halftime – something that hasn’t happened very often in the last several seasons.
But South Lyon East scored two touchdowns in the third quarter on long runs as big plays continue to haunt the Dreadnaughts. They added three touchdowns in third quarter to put the game away.
Dexter quarterback Luke Coogan was 10 of 21 passing for 95 yards and two interceptions.
While South Lyon East had four turnovers (two fumbles, two interceptions), Dexter committed eight penalties for 80 yards while the hosts had just three penalties for 15 yards.
South Lyon East had 371 yards on the ground compared to 70 for Dexter. The hosts had 22 first downs and were 5 of 9 on third down.
Luallen led Dexter with 40 yards rushing on 11 carries.
Evan Chapell led Dexter with five tackles and three assists. Nick Fileccia, Marcus Young and David Kreske each had four tackles.
