Popular travel website OnlyInYourState.com has compiled a list of the nine best cider mills in the whole wide state of Michigan, and the Dexter Cider Mill was the chart topper out of all of them.
If this news gets your mouth watering for cider and doughnuts, don’t worry, because the Dexter Cider Mill opens this Friday, August 25 for its 131st season.
The Dexter Cider Mill is currently owned and operated by Nancy Steinhauer, the daughter of Richard Koziski, who is the second person to purchase ownership of the property after it was started in 1886 by a Civil War veteran.
“We make cider the same way it was made 120 years ago by using an oak rack press,” the Dexter Cider Mill’s websites says. “Using locally grown and hand picked apples and blending 3-5 different varieties in every pressing, which makes each press unique. The equipment used to press the cider is over 100 years old.”
The mill also sells fresh apples, apple nut bread, and a number of products from BBQ sauce to syrup, and on weekends you can find home made apple pies made from scratch alongside apple strudel and apple turnovers.
The Cider Mill is open from late August to Mid-November, Wednesday through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
