Baseball: Dreads rally falls short in extra-inning loss

The Dexter baseball team scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to push its game with Pioneer on Friday into overtime but the Pioneers scored a run in the top of the ninth for a 6-5 win.

Pioneer scored a run in the third, three in the fifth and one in the sixth. They had 12 hits in the game.

Dexter took a 1-0 lead in the second and cut the deficit to 4-2 with a run in the fifth. Down 5-2, the Dreads scored three in the seventh to tie the game at 5-5.

Dexter had nine hits and committed three errors on the day.

Ryan Flattery pitched four innings and had two strikeouts. Joey Hiser also pitched and had two Ks.

Tyler Valentine led the Dexter offense with three hits. David Kreske drove in two runs for the Dreads. Hiser had two walks in the ballgame.
