Hope Day Is Right Around the Corner, Have You Got Your Shirt?

hope day 2017

It’s that time of year again: time to show off your hope for a cure for cancer, hope for the families affected by it, and hope that those diagnosed will beat it.

On May 19 Dexter will be adorned in purple banners and hundreds of people will wear their purple hope t-shirts to show solidarity in the fight for a cure that culminates in the yearly Dexter Relay for Life.

The event started nine years ago after the father of organizer Angie Scott passed away from a quick and unexpected bout with cancer.

Relay for Life organizer Holly Kipfmiller said the day, which has since grown into a week-long event, helps show solidarity with those who are battling cancer as well as their families.

“It gives them the knowledge that there is a lot of support out there,” she said. “There’s support from everyone in their community.”

Show of Hope Day serves as the pre-cursor to Relay for Life’s annual fundraising event, which is set for June 24 at Monument Park. For more information on this year’s Relay visit the following link: http://main.acsevents.org/site/TR/RelayForLife/RFLCY17LS?pg=entry&fr_id=81322.
