Softball: Dreads come up short despite 10 hits, 6 runs

After falling 8-0 in the opener on May 3 to Monroe, the Dexter softball team broke out the bats and pounded out 10 hits and scored six runs in the second game. Unfortunately for the Dreads, Monroe also had 10 hits and turned them into nine runs in a 9-6 victory to complete the sweep.

The second game featured plenty of offense and things got rolling right away as both teams scored three runs in the opening inning. Monroe added two more in the second to take a 5-3 lead. Dexter tied the ballgame at 5-5 with a two-run fourth inning.

Monroe took charge with four runs in the sixth. The Dreads scored a run in the bottom of the sixth but it wasn’t enough.

Maddy Stroia started and took the loss for Dexter. She pitched five innings, giving up eight runs, nine hits, and striking out four.

Claire Cronin, Megan Niswonger, and Kelsey Crosby each collected multiple hits for the Dreads.

In the opener, Monroe scored three runs in the third and broke it open with four in the sixth.

Katelyn Niswonger took the loss. She went seven innings, surrendering eight runs, 11 hits, and striking out nine.
Crosby, Courtney Lupi and Niswonger had hits for Dexter.
