Baseball: Dreadnaughts sweep visiting Negaunee

Everything came up sunny for the Dexter baseball team on Saturday.

After some early showers and clouds, the sun came out before the first pitch and shined down on the Dreadnaughts as they swept visiting Negaunee in a non-league doubleheader.

The Dreads opened the first game by scoring three runs in each of the first three innings and never looked back. Dexter finished with 12 hits and a 12-2 win in five innings.

Ryan Schoch pitched four innings and fanned eight to earn the win.

Tyler Valentine and Ryan Flattery each had two hits. Flattery and Joey Hiser each had two RBI.

Dexter won the second game 16-1 behind three strong innings from Ryan Moore, who fanned six batters and allowed just one hit to record the victory.

The offense didn’t waste any time getting up and running as the Dreads scored five in the first, seven in the second and three more in the third.

Matt Sinelli racked up four hits and three RBI in the night cap while Drake Doyle had two hits. Moore, Drew Bielas and Tyler Woelfel had two walks apiece. Doyle and Grant Stehley each had two RBI in the win.
