Boys Track: Dreads win back-and-forth meet with Ypsi

The Dexter High School boys’ track and field team defeated visiting Ypsilanti Community 79-57 at Al Ritt on Monday.
The meet went back and forth all day, with Ypsilanti sweeping certain events and pulling ahead, and then Dexter sweeping others for the lead. Finally, Dexter pulled away for good.

The Dreads swept the 400-meter dash. Senior Jack Shelley won with a time of 52.53; followed by freshman Liam Baird (54.41) and sophomore Rene McCoy (56.15).

They also swept the discus. Sophomore Cameron O’Day won with a throw of 106’3″ (PR) followed by junior Caleb Williams (105’10”) and sophomore James Blankenship (96’2″).

Williams also was third in the shot put with a throw of 34’7.”

O’Day also was third in the long jump with a jump of 17’0″ (PR).

Senior Miles Kanipe won both the 1600 run with a time of 4:54.04, and the 3200 run with a time of 10:14.00.
Senior Wesley Treemore was second in the long jump with a jump of 17’6.5″ and was second in the high jump with a jump of 5’2.”

Dexter hosts the April Shower Relays next Saturday.
