Along with birds, bees, and flowers the effort of volunteers to gear up for the annual Relay for Life in Dexter is a sure sign that spring is upon us.
Dexter RFL organizers will begin the buildup to Dexter’s 2017 Relay with their third annual Taste of Relay event at the Null Taphouse on March 2 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., during which attendees can sample food from various local restaurants, imbibe from a cash bar, and participate in a silent auction.
Last year’s Relay raised an impressive $25,000 in proceeds from 11 teams to support the American Cancer Society in the fight to finance research into treatments and hopefully someday a cure for a disease that touches so many lives across all walks of life throughout the whole human race.
“Our goal is to Fundraise $30,000.00 and hoping to exceed that,” said Holly Kipfmiller. “Each year we are hoping for more community involvement. So getting the downtown district involved during Show of Hope Week, from May 14 to 21, and the day of the event will be a priority.”
Kipfmiller said that the organizers are still early in the planning process, so announcements of new wrinkles to the event are still to come as the planning process moves along.
She said that adding new teams is a priority this year, so if your family or someone you know has had to deal with cancer and you want to do something to honor their struggle and make a difference, starting a Relay team family and carrying forward year-after-year to help act as a tent-pole for this important yearly event is a great way to achieve that.
“Each year, new teams bring new excitement to the event,” Kipfmiller said. “The event is on June 24th this year, from 10 a.m. to Midnight.”
Those who wish to attend the Taste of Relay can buy tickets for $20 per person, $40 for a couple, or $50 for a family.
Survivors and Children under 10 are free.
Advance donations submitted at the event’s website will earn admittance, or payment can be submitted via cash or check at the door.
