Cross country girls persevere through mud, muck at SEC Jamboree

Last week’s cross country SEC (South Eastern Conference) Jamboree #3 was a tough race in the rain and mud at Hudson Mills. Emma Streetman ran the only PR (new personal best time) on the team, and Morgan Cobb finished with a new SR (season record time). Varsity individual results from the race are listed below.

Dani Waidley, 19:49
Claire Ketzner, 20:04
Lindsey Hayter, 20:46
Gigi Eisele, 21:02
Jacquelynn Terbush, 21:30
Anna Varitek, 21:32
Megyn Scafasci, 21:48

At regionals on Friday, a well-rounded varsity team comprised of three seniors (Lindsey Hayter, Gigi Eisele, Jordan McGinnis), two juniors (Dani Waidley, Claire Ketzner), one sophomore (Anna Varitek), and one freshman (Jacquelynn Terbush) will take on the challenge of earning a spot for the girls’ cross country team at the state meet a week from Saturday. Regionals this Friday determine which teams move on to states: the top three teams competing or any individual medalists (top 15 finishers) on Friday will go on to compete at the Michigan International Speedway on November 5th.

Sometimes cross country athletes have to do as much wading as they do running. Dexter’s girls didn’t mind though.

Regionals will be held at Huron Meadows Metropark in Brighton on Friday, October 28th. The schedule lists boys’ varsity at 4pm and girls varsity at 4:30. Awards will be given out at 5:15. Following those races, the boys JV team is listed at 5:35pm and the girls race at 5:40pm. If teams or individuals advance to the state finals, those races will be held a week from Saturday.
