Dexter Cross Country Girls Gear Up For SEC Championship

cross country

The girls cross country team posted surprising scores at Portage two weeks ago. This is the first season the JV girls have been invited to go to the meet, and they proved themselves worthy of the course.

At Portage, the team collectively scored six season best times and three personal records. Of note, Claire Ketzner shaved 31 seconds off her time to break the 20 minute mark, Amanda Huber cut 45 seconds off her best time, and Sarah Read dropped 1:21 off her previous fastest time for a new PR. Season records were scored by Megyn Scafasci, Jordan McGinnis, Abby McLean, Heather Brouwer, Dani Waidley, and Lindsey Hayter.

In Dreadnaught style, the girls continued their streak last Friday at the River Rat Regional Preview race at Willow Metropark in New Boston. The girls rocked the course when 19 out of 20 girls ran either season best times (6 runners) or all-time best 5000m times (13). The most impressive achievement was that every single Dexter runner in both varsity and junior varsity dropped time from her previous race. These performances put them in position to do very well at regionals.

The varsity team races at 3:30 p.m., and JV runs at 5:10 p.m. As always, parking will be tight and arriving early is recommended. A pass is required for park entry.
