Last week the Dexter Wellness Center gymnasium became the epicenter of a rousing Zumba dance party called Dancing Towards a Cure.

The annual event is a super-charged, high-energy waydwc_zumba_2 for community members to “get up off of that thing” and join a movement that honors, celebrates, and helps victims of cancer. The Wellness Center has sponsored the event for three years straight, ever since the Center opened in 2013. It’s been such a success that the Center received a Program Innovation Award from the globally recognized Medical Fitness Association.

As in previous years, this year’s dance party was open to everyone in Dexter and beyond. Each participant donated $10 or more, and 100% of the proceeds went to the American Cancer Society.

dwc_zumba_3The grooves and moves were led by a caring and talented team of four licensed Zumba instructors, who also teach several Zumba classes throughout the week at the Wellness Center.

Four lucky participants won special prizes donated by the Dexter Wellness Center, including a one-hour massage, a DWC gym bag, and special DWC gift-card goodie bags.

Many thanks to the fabulous instructors and participants for making the evening a smashing success!
