Fun Programs and Events in July at Dexter District Library

Dexter District Library’s Summer Reading Program continues throughout July and it’s not too late to sign up for one of our four fun programs for adults, teens, kids who read on their own and those who read with a grownup. Stop by the Library, fill out a registration form and start reading for a chance to win some great prizes in August.

In addition to the Summer Reading Program, there are plenty of events planned for adults, teens and kids of all ages throughout July. Visit our website at www.dexter.lib.mi.us for a complete list of this month’s programs.

On Friday, July 1 at 11:00 am Howell Nature Center will present “Myth Crackers: Common Animal Myths”. Are owls really wise? Can a porcupine shoot its quills? Do turtles come out of their shells? Discover the answers to these questions and more in this new live animal presentation. Meet a variety of wild animals face-to-face, including a live bald eagle. Geared for ages four and up, everyone is welcome.

Shark Week Mania for Teens starts out on Tuesday, July 5 at 11:00 am. Teens in Grades 5 through 12 can register to make sea-themed crafts while watching Discovery Channel’s Shark Week episodes on the big screen. Call 734-426-4477 to register. At 4:00 pm kids of all ages are invited to our First Tuesday Lego Club. Spend an hour making your own Lego creations while visiting with old friends and making new ones. Everyone is welcome – Legos will be provided by the Library.

Do you have a Dexter District Library Card? If so, you’re in luck. On Wednesday, July 6, stop by Farmers Market between 11:00 am and 1:00 pm, with your DDL card and receive a free ice cream cone or cup, compliments of Dexter District Library. Afterwards, visit the lower level meeting room for some ice cream related crafts.

Friday, July 8 will be a busy day at the Library beginning at 10:00 am with a visit from the Michigan Secretary of State Mobile Office. Services include issuing or renewing drivers licenses, changing a drivers license address or other personal information, issuing or renewing a personal identification card, obtaining license plates and tabs and registering people to vote. The SOS Mobile Office will be in the Library parking lot from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. At 11:00 am Drummunity returns to the Library for another popular performance. Dexter resident, Lori Fithian, has been facilitating drum circles and leading workshops for many years. Her program has been a favorite at the Library. This is a high energy, interactive, fun and empowering event for all ages. From 1:00 to 2:00 pm teens in grades 5 through 12 are invited to Lori’s Drumming Workshop. Registration is required for this workshop, call 734-426-4477 to register.

Friday, July 15 at 11:00 am is Movie & Popcorn for Kids. Enjoy a popular, recently released kids movie on the big screen with a free bag of popcorn.

Game On @ the Library returns Tuesday, July 26 from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm. Kids in Grades 1 through 5 are invited to stop by the Library and drop-in on a game of their choice. Meet up with friends or make new ones. Ping Pong, Foosball and various board games will be provided but feel free to bring your favorite game to share. We will also have tables set up with a variety of crafts for kids to make for fun or while waiting for their turn at the games. Registration is not required.

The end of the July brings A2 Magic with Jeff Wawrzaszek and his “Go for the Gold Magic Show” to the Library. Stop by on Friday, July 29 at 11:00 am and enjoy a solid gold 45 minutes of pure, imaginative magic, hilarious visual humor and audience participation rolled into an amazing summer reading magic show for all ages. Teens can get into the fun at the Teen Magic Workshop from 1:00 to 2:00 pm. Anyone in grades 5 through 12 can register to learn Jeff’s “A2 Magic Secrets”. Prepare to impress your friends and family, registration is required. Call 734-426-4477.

In addition to the listed July programs, the Library also offers Drop-In Story Times, book clubs for all ages and a variety of workshops throughout the month. Visit the Library or our website at www.dexter.lib.mi.us for more information.
