CONTEST: Watchtower Opens at 11 a.m., Up, Up, and Away!

Ethan Ernst-Hodys is geeked about opening a business that will, no doubt, be a haven for those with nerdier interests.

In a matter of hours, Dexter will have its very own brick-and-mortar store selling comic books, graphic novels, board games, card battlers, action figures, and a whole bunch of other cool stuff that will provide another very good reason to frequent the downtown area.

Proprietor Ethan Ernst-Hodys caught up with us Wednesday and shared the good news that his construction company had wrapped up the flooring work, which had delayed the store’s original tentative opening timeframe of “mid-June.”

He is hard at work getting the logistics for Magic the Gathering and other card battler tournaments going, as well as laying the groundwork for board game and other events so the Watchtower isn’t just a storefront, but a node of nerd culture and a hangout for those folks who appreciate geek chic hobbies and activities. is partnering with the Watchtower to bring Dexterites the latest news about the most popular series’ newest issues, soon-to-drop graphic novels, and the latest toys and games in a monthly posting that will be a local guide of sorts to the world of comics, games and toys.

In fact, we have a challenge for those who wish to enter a contest for two mystery prizes that will be provided by Ethan. We’re still working on choosing from a pile of goodies, but we assure our readers that it will be worthwhile.

All you have to do is one of the following:

1) Post a photo to Twitter or Instagram in which you imitate the character’s pose on the cover of a comic book that you’re purchasing. Tag (@welovedextermi) and include the hashtag #welovewatchtower in the posting.

2) Post a video to Facebook of you sharing what your favorite comic book franchise is and why while holding a recently purchased issue of it from Watchtower, also with tagged and the #welovewatchtower hashtag.

The post with the highest number of engagements (likes, shares, comments, etc) will get a prize and one entry will be chosen by a panel of judges including myself, Ethan, and other members of the team.

Each of these two lucky comic book enthusiasts will earn the prize. Winners will collect their prize at the Watchtower store and be included in a picture with Watchtower and staff at a mutually convenient time.
