Baseball: Dreads split a pair over the weekend

Dexter used a big second inning to take control against Monroe and never looked back in an 8-1 win Saturday morning in the first of two games for the host Dreadnaughts.

The weekend doubleheader got off to a terrific start when the Dreads put up six runs in the second inning against the Trojans. They would had solo runs in the fifth and sixth innings.

Monroe was kept off the board until the sixth inning thanks to a strong start by Nick Winston. The Dexter pitcher went six innings and recorded nine strike outs and threw 16 first-pitch strikes to earn the victory.

Joey Hiser and Stewie Weber each had two hits for Dexter as the Dreads racked up nine hits as a team. Cam Milne, Chase Rojeck and Seth Jaimez all drove in runs for the Dreadnaughts.

In the afternoon, Dexter took on Bedford and fell to the Kicking Mules 9-2. Bedford took a 3-0 lead after two innings and put up six runs in the six to break the game open. Dexter scored solo runs in the fourth and seventh innings.

Milne and Tyler Valentine pitched for the Dreads.

Dexter played two on Monday at Lincoln. They host the Railsplitters at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
