Girls Basketball: Dreads knock off Pinckney in District opener

The Dexter girls’ basketball team jumped out to a 13-9 lead after the first quarter in its District opener Monday night at Ann Arbor Huron High School. And the Dreadnaughts never looked back, cruising to a 58-24 win over Pinckney.

The victory sets up a showdown with Ann Arbor Huron at 7 p.m. on Wednesday at Huron.

Dexter led 29-14 at halftime and 46-21 after three quarters.

Five Dexter players scored seven or more points in the victory over Pinckney. Cayla Schlaff led the way with 14 points. Taylor Olson and Kristen Young each scored eight and Amanda Fileccia and Anna Love each scored seven in the win.

Sammi Corcoran helped Dexter get off to a strong start scoring all five of her points in the first quarter. Stella Kill led the Dreads on the glass with seven rebounds. Olson and Wing each had five rebounds.

The Dreadnaughts have now won 20 games in a row and improved to 20-1 on the season.
