Notebook: Student count being down comes up at board meeting

The student count in Dexter Community Schools is down from last year but the exact number has not yet been determined. Superintendent Chris Timmis told the board of education at its October 12, 2015 meeting, “The district budgeted to be down 25 students, but we should be better than that.”

The board approved the hiring of Rachel Wilson to be a music teacher at Creekside Intermediate school during the 2015-16 school year. Wilson has been the band director in the Grass Lake school district for the last eight years. She has a bachelor’s degree in Music Education from the University of MIchigan and a Master of Music in Music Education from Michigan State University.

The board approved (5-0- Darr and Everdeen absent) the certification of delegates to represent the Dexter Community school district’s Board of Education at the Michigan Association of School Boards Delegate Assembly.

Board President Michael Wendorf said that he will approve anyone interested in representing the board for the 2015 MASB Delegate Assembly, which begins October 22 at the Grand Traverse Resort where the MASB fall conference is taking place. The board is entitled to three Voting Delegates and Alternates.
