Monaghan receives Farm Bureau recognition, group seeks scholarship candidates

The Washtenaw County Farm Bureau recently recognized Chris M. Monaghan of Dexter as recipient of the Key Club Award for the second year in row.

Chris is the owner of The Monaghan Insurance Agency based out of Scio Township and operating throughout Washtenaw County.

The award was given at the Farm Bureau’s annual meeting and dinner event at the Sharon United Methodist Church in Manchester on Monday September 21.


The event provides an opportunity for Michigan Farm Bureau members to honor local farmers, review upcoming legislation and discuss issues related to the agricultural community.

Since its establishment, Washtenaw County Farm Bureau has been dedicated to defending the rights and economic interests of its members. Furthermore, Farm Bureau offers programs to help promote and educate local residents including:

— County issues and policy development groups.

— Project R.E.D. A three day activity program designed for 3rd graders regarding rural education.

— The Young Farmer program is designed to develop leadership potential for men and women between the ages of 18 and 35.

Farm Bureau is also looking for contenders for a pair of $500 scholarships, which the organization awards annually.

“Your county Farm Bureau believes that its member families are the most important people in the organization,” the organization said in a written statement. “The Washtenaw County Farm Bureau is proud to announce our 2015 Scholarship Program.”

The criteria is as follows:

— Must be enrolled in a post-secondary school beginning in the Fall of 2015.

— Individual or parents must be a regular member of the Washtenaw County Farm Bureau.

— The attached application is due to the County Office by September 4, 2015. (Originals, email and fax will be accepted)

— Selections will be made by the Scholarship Committee.

— Winners will be announced at the 2015 Annual Meeting on September 21, 2015. (Winners will be notified prior to the event)
