Volleyball: Dexter falls in close fifth set to Adrian

Dexter welcomed Adrian to town on Thursday for an SEC White Division showdown.

The Dreadnaughts dropped the fifth and final set in a tough match with the Maples.

“The girls played hard throughout the two hour match with Adrian,” said Dexter coach D’Ann Dunn. “We let the fifth set get away from us by letting Adrian score five points in a row. We were down 5 to 12 and fought back but lost 11-15. The match was back and forth throughout each game.”

The scores were 17-25, 25-21, 23-25, 25-21 and 11- 15.

Dexter was led by its middle blockers. Senior middle Shelby Spuller had 15 kills, 4 blocks and 7 digs. Junior Mary Gallagher had 14 kills and 3 blocks and sophomore Alexa Bell contributed 12 more kills to the match.

“I was very proud of our girls for fighting throughout the match,” Dunn said.

Dexter plays Tuesday at Lincoln.
