Menards Kicks Off Week-long Grand Opening Event Today

Those who are excited about there being a Menards in Washtenaw County will have plenty of opportunity to celebrate starting today and running through to October 4, as the company’s 292nd location is hosting a number of prize giveaways, product demonstrations and even celebrity appearances including the likes of Red Wing Chris Chelios and Detroit Lion Herman Moore.

The new location can be found at 6405 Jackson Road in Scio Township, south of I-94. The spacious 242,000 square foot location includes all of the amenities and other inclusions that Menards fans appreciate in the company’s storefronts.

The Washtenaw County location has some features and configurations that make it unique within the company, beyond those things that people seek the brand out for, such as the product mix of hardware, groceries and even entertainment merchandise, competitively low prices and regular specials.

“The biggest differentiation in this location is that we’re going to have our millwork and building materials all in one area kind of to make it convenient for our guests,” said Menards Ann Arbor’s General Manager Mark Blumberg, who was chosen from the company’s management team in Illinois to come to Michigan to lead the company’s unique new location.

“Our guests will be able to instead of going around the store to get all the parts they can get it all in one area. We’ve got a bigger selection than a lot of other stores, even Menards stores and any other store that’s in the area,” he said.

With the building trades being what they are in Washtenaw County and the DIY spirit of the folks who live in the more rural parts of the county, the arrival of Menards also means there’s a new major lumberyard competing in that market with Chelsea Lumber Company and Carter Lumber.
